Beyond Lignin: Unlocking the Value of Cellulose in Lignin‑First Biorefineries
Abstract
Bloom’s Aldehyde-Assisted Fractionation (AAF) biorefinery process enables the isolation of high-quality lignin and hemicellulose, yet it also yields substantial quantities of cellulose. While cellulose is not the primary innovation driver of this platform, its unique properties—stemming from the AAF process—offer compelling advantages. This contribution explores the characteristics, performance benefits, and emerging market opportunities as a differentiated material with strategic potential in the transition to bio-based materials.
