High‑Performance MCC from Hardwood: Unlocking New Functionalities Through Process Innovation
Abstract
The Sunburst™ pretreatment of hardwood enables controlled production of microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) with distinct morphology, narrow particle size distribution, high crystallinity, and minimal residual lignin. These tailored properties directly influence functional performance in diverse applications, including pharmaceutical formulations, food structuring agents, rheology modifiers, and bio-based composites. The presentation will discuss structure–property relationships and demonstrate how Sunburst-MCC extends the application range of cellulose-based materials.
